Book Review: I Am Not A Skunk by Ellen J. Pilch

Not long ago I reviewed Prancie's Prayer by Ellen J. Pilch, which I just adored. Today I'm very happy to bring you her second book, I Am Not A Skunk.

I Am Not A Skunk (which is loosely based on how Ellen's cat, Emmy, came to live with her) is the cute tale of a black and white cat who finds herself on the street. I was looking forward to reviewing this book because it reminds me a little bit of Lexy, who also found herself on the street.

Poor Kitty finds herself alone and hungry on the street, wondering how she could possibly be in this predicament. She finds herself walking passed a house where a woman and her niece are planting flowers, but jumps inside a bush to hide.

The little girls thinks she sees a cat and runs inside to get a can of food. Her Uncle David thinks the cat is a skunk, and runs outside to stop her from feeding the skunk. All of a sudden the sprinklers come on and Kitty finds herself all wet, and very sad.

Don't worry, there is a happy ending for kitty! I won't give away how, but the little girl proves she's not a skunk and kitty finds her happy ever after - her forever home.

I love reading Ellen's books. They contain a message of kindness and her family's love of cats shine through. I Am Not A Skunk is beautifully illustrated by Nicolas Peruzzo (who also illustrated Prancie's Prayer.)

From the Publisher (Mirror Publishing):
I Am Not A Skunk is Ellen Pilch's second picture book. It is about a homeless kitty excited to find a family, but must first convince them she is not a skunk. It is loosely based on how the author's cat, Emmy, came to live with her. You can read more about Emmy and her family on the blog, 15andmeowing.com.

Ellen is running a giveaway on Amazon for a copy of the book. Run on over and enter here

I hope Ellen decides to write another children's book. She's inspiring me to write the one that has been on my To Do List for a long time now.

    1. BTW, when I saw the ginger Lola on ASVL, my first thought was that Lola must mean sweet in some language. Then again, they don't need an excuse!
