Got Litter Box Odors? Freshen Up With Tidy Cats Deodorizer #ChewyInfluencer

Lexy usually does our Chewy Influencer reviews, but this month she didn't approve of my choice of products so it's all on me. (I can't figure out if it's because she's not getting a tasty treat or if she thinks I'm saying her poop stinks. Maybe it's a combination of both!)

Lola, Lexy, and I share a one bedroom apartment, which means there's not a lot of bathroom space for three girls. I've tried placing the litter box in the bathroom, but it didn't work for a couple of reasons:

  1. There was not a lot of room to maneuver around the box.
  2. I had to lean over the box to do my makeup in the mirror.
  3. I was stepping on litter when I got out of the shower.

The only other place for the box was a corner in the living room.

Cat owners will know what that means... your guests will smell your box as soon as they walk into your house.

I try to choose a litter that will control odor without smelling too" perfumey". (Flowery scented poop does not help the situation.) I finally narrowed down the litter, but from time to time there is still an odor. I have been considering trying a litter box deodorizer, and when Chewy had one on on their list of products this month I decided to give it a try. (Much to Lexy's dismay.)

Tidy Cats Litter Box Deodorizer For Multiple Cats by Purina controls odor while keeping things smelling fresh and clean. I was concerned that it would be too strong smelling and would make Lola sneeze (because of her chronic sinusitis.) I was pleasantly surprised when neither happened.

I only sprinkle a little bit in the box from the convenient shaker canister and the litter is refreshed. (The instructions suggest 1/4 cup, but I use less than that and it's fine.) I've been using it for about a week now and I can say there is definitely less odor. We've had a few humid days here in the North East, and everything on humid days smells worse for some reason. Except for the litter box with the Tidy Cats Litter Box Deodorizer. I definitely smelled a difference.

Key Benefits:

  • Specially formulated cat litter deodorizer beats plain baking soda
  • Compatible with regular and clumping clay litters
  • Fresh herbal, floral fragrance
  • Deodorizer helps your litter smell fresh even when it's not
  • Ideal for multiple cat households
I use a super clumping litter, and if this product interfered with that, it would get a thumbs down from me. I'm happy to report it gets a thumbs up!

Why I like it:

  • It doesn't make Lola sneeze
  • There is no flowery scented poop
  • The clumps are still super clumped and don't fall apart
  • The scent doesn't overpower the living room
  • It controls odors
  • I don't have to worry about guests wrinkling their noses upon entering my home

Lola and Lexy may be a little disappointed that they didn't get a yummy treat this month to review, but I got a sweet treat for my nose. You can grab a 20 oz. canister of Tidy Cats Litter Box Deodorizer For Multiple Cats at Chewy.com for $2.82. That's 29% savings off of the regular price of $3.99. If you choose the Auto Ship option, you can save an extra 5%. (That’s probably a good idea since you’ll want your home to always smell fresh.) As always, shipping is free for orders of $49 and more, and Chewy’s customer service is terrific.

This deodorizer is labelled for use with mulitple cat households, but single cat litter boxes could benefit from it as well.

Is your litterbox a little stinky at times? Do you think this would help?

  3. Great review! I love the convo between Lexy and Lola :) I haven't used a litter box deodorizer but I may give it a try!

  4. Is there a list of ingredients? It doesn't contain Glade or Febeeze does it? TW is so sensitive to odors that even the Glide litter is too strong for her.

  5. I agree, it things do smell worse on humid days. This sounds like a great product.

  6. How awesome that Mom Dawn got a sweet treat for her nose. Even though Lola and Lexy did not get any food (darn!). :)

Thank you so much for your thoughtful condolences and purrs about our sweet angel Zoe's passing. You are dear friends, and we are so grateful for you. Much love!

  7. I don't even notice the lingering odors anymore - so I worry about what people smell when they walk in the door. I've never tried something like this ... but your review makes me want to :) I hate overly sweet smelling stuff (it usually gives me a horrid headache) - but this sounds different.

  8. Love the photos of the kitties enjoying the Chewy.com box! Mine do the same thing!

  9. Sounds like it does the trick! Hopefully Lexy and Lola will get treats next time.

  10. Hi Miz Dawn. Remember me from Blogpaws? I appreciate your concern for too purr-fumey scents cuz they upset our asthma at my house. And when Opie, Peaches, Dori and Elly are coughing, it gets real loud in here and makes it hard for me to nap. We use Tidy Cats litter, and I put the deodorizer on the list for Mom to try. Not that my poop stinks... but Franks does.

  12. No litter boxes in the Lapdog household, but we would sure check this out if we did have one! Chewy rocks!

  13. Although there is nothing funny about smelly boxes, your post had me laughing out loud. Humor, in my opinion is a great way to promote a product. I'm glad this one works well for you. I will keep this in mind when the winter months come and Rooster decides he really does appreciate his creature comforts!

  14. That is a great product! I hate any artificial flowery scents since I am allergic and have a pretty sensitive nose.

  15. Huh.. I didn't even know they made a litter deodorizer additive! That sounds like such a great idea!

  16. I didn't know they made those but that's a good idea! Litterbox smell is not a pleasant way to greet guests.

  17. Nice review. I might have to try this out next time I foster a litter. Having 4-6 cats using a litterbox in one room of the house can create a fair amount of odor.

  18. I'm glad to hear that it doesn't overpower the room. I have tried a few similar products that actually smelled worse than than the poop smell. No sneezing is good too for kitties and humans!

  19. We keep the litter box in the basement for our cat Peanut Butter, but she's getting older. Because of her arthritis, we may have to move the litter box up to the first floor. Knowing about this litter box deodorizer takes one worry off my mind.

  20. Oh you two do make me laugh!!

It's NOT food LOL!!!!!! Maybe next time Lexy :-)

  21. I would have loved this deodorizer when I had two cats. I had the same issue with litter boxes in small apartment bathrooms. I've actually had litter boxes in my bedroom and once in a closet whose door would not shut all the way.

  22. Great approach to this review. One of our litter boxes is also in the living room and I'm concerned about odor when people visit. I may need to try this.

  23. I love the great captions for the kitties! I've tried using this before but my Ragdoll is allergic to it so I had to purchase some kind of cubed deodorizer for our litter boxes.
