2017 Was A Busy Year For Lola The Rescued Cat!

As 2017 comes to an end it’s time to reflect on the year that has passed and give thanks for the many blessings that have come my way. I’ve started this post over two or three times, writing it in Lola and Lexy’s voice (since they did our look back last year.) But this year it seems to flow better coming from me (much to their dismay. Sorry, girls!)

Christmas Is Coming! 6 Tips To Cat Proof Your Christmas Tree!

This post contains affiliate links, meaning, if you click through and make a purchase, I may earn a commission. This is at no additional cost to you.

Hello everyone. This is Lexy checking in. Last year at this time I shared some very important holiday information. Since my secretary did not help us prepare a new safety post this season, I'm re-sharing my six simple tips that will keep your cat safe, while your tree still looks festive, this Christmas.

Christmas is a very festive time of year with a lot of decorations, the biggest one being your Christmas Tree. Christmas trees are oh so pretty, but can be oh so dangerous for kitty. Follow my six simple tips and you and your kitty will be very happy!

Opt for an artificial tree.

Did you know an artificial tree is safer for your cat than a real tree? The pine needles on a real tree are not only dangerous (they can puncture internal organs if ingested), they are toxic.  If you do opt for a real tree, make sure the stand has plenty of water to prevent it from drying out.  The water in the tree’s bowl is also unsafe for your cat, so try keeping it covered with the tree skirt to deter kitty’s temptation to taste it.

Make sure the tree is secure.

You can do this by anchoring the tree to the wall with a wire and taping with base with duct tape to the floor so it’s not easily knocked over. If possible, try not to have the tree next to shelves or furniture that your cat could use as a launching pad to pounce on the tree.

Skip the tinsel.

Tinsel can gather in your cat’s intestines and cause a blockage. A better alternative? Strands of beads. Mother uses these on our tree instead of tinsel, and they’re very pretty.

Avoid glass ornaments.

Decorate your tree with non-breakable ornaments. Glass shards can cause lacerations on the mouth, or worse yet, severe intestinal damage.  If you do use glass ornaments, place them high up on the tree out of your cat’s reach. Speaking of ornaments, hooks can also be dangerous. Alternatives are using twine or ribbon to tie them to the tree. It’s also a good idea to not have very small ornaments that can be easily ingested.

Use caution with lights.

Electrical cords can pose a danger for cats who chew them.  Make sure the lights are secured to the branches and are not dangling to reduce temptation. Keep in mind that some larger lights can get hot and could cause a burn.  Remember to unplug lights when not in use and pet proof your extension cords with a chew safe cord cover like this or a Pecord Pawtec like this.

Be mindful of gifts and wrappings.

Beautifully wrapped presents under the tree may add to the holiday d├ęcor and increase the Christmas spirit, but ribbons are a hazard for cats. Ribbons are exciting and we may think they are a fun toy.  But ingestion could result in emergency surgery. When leaving gifts under the tree it’s best to avoid ribbons or other decorations that could be chewed or swallowed.

I hope these tips are helpful.  Do you have anything to add to the list? Is your cat mischievous with the Christmas tree?

Selfie Sunday - On our Christmas Set

Hello, everyone. This is Lexy checking in with a Sunday Selfie. As I was looking back through our blog last night, I discovered that we haven't participated in Selfie Sunday since October 29 when we posed with Phoebe's Traveling Shades. That's just not acceptable if you ask me. I'll have to have a chat with Mother to ensure we get better at this.

Anyway, on to the photos. We set up our set (a.k.a our living room) for Christmas shoots. Mother laid out some fake pine boughs, which I just love! Every time she turns around, I'm lying on it.

I Lost My Teeth! My Experience At The Dentist

Help! Help! Someone took my teeth! If you happen to find two canines, a molar, and two more teeth please return them to Lola The Rescued Cat!

*giggle giggle* Sorry, I couldn’t resist being silly. Hello, and happy Friday! Last month (on November 7, to be exact) I went to the dentist and I wanted to tell you all about my experience. The saga with my teeth actually started a while back. You see, when I was adopted almost seven years ago my two top canine teeth were already broken (life on the street was a little tough, what can I say?), but it never seemed to be a big deal until recently. When I went to my vet, Dr. Sheheri, in October she was a little concerned about how they were looking so she recommended that I go to a dental specialist to have my canines removed. She also thought that it was possible that bacteria was entering my broken teeth and could be one of the reasons that I’m stuffy, sneezy, and have a chronic runny nose.

Cat Themed Mugs For The Coffee Lover

Christmas is upon us, and I’ve been diligently trying to get a gift list together for our readers. Life and work have been hectic and I’m way behind in my blogging plan, but I was able to put together a pretty cool gift list I think you'll enjoy.
