Keep Your Cat Hydrated During the Dog Days of Summer! #PetHydrationMonth

Hello, everyone. This is Lexy checking in with some important health information. Did you know that July is Pet Hydration month? The folks at PetSafe® Brand started this important campaign so they could get the word out to pet owners about proper hydration for pets.

When the weather is hot and humid during the North East summers, Lola and I rely on our fountains to keep us well hydrated. With a supply of running water, we are guaranteed cool, clean water to keep us refreshed. A girl can get parched fairly quickly during the dog days of summer when she's bird watching in the window!

Lucky for us we have the Drinkwell® Ceramic Pagoda Fountain by PetSafe Brand. This fountain is just purrfect for small and medium sized pets like us. There are two free-falling streams that keep water tasting fresh all the time. There are also two drinking areas, one upper and one lower, so there is plenty of room for two kitties to drink. This fountain suits both Lola and my needs because I love to drink from a stream of water, and she loves to drink from the bowl. It’s a win-win situation for everyone, and I don’t have to wait for someone with thumbs to turn on the faucet.

I bet you feed your cat nutritious, wholesome food, don’t you? Did you know that supplying us with clean water is just as important?

Making sure we’re well-hydrated will:
  • Prevent urinary tract infections and urinary disease
  • Aid with energy levels and temperature regulation
  • Speed recovery time from sickness or surgery

If your cat exhibits any of the following symptoms, you need to get her to a vet right away! (Your cat may require IV fluids.)
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Lack of energy
  • Excessive and ogoing panting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Sunken, dry eyes
  • Dry and sticky gums
  • Loss of skin elasticity

With our Drinkwell ® Ceramic Pagoda fountain, we never have to worry about dehydration. It keeps us healthy and hydrated with fresh, filtered circulating water. The replaceable charcoal filter removes bad tastes and odors and our water is always delish. Mother likes it because it’s so easy to clean, and it’s stylish, too.

She finds the sound of running water very relaxing and “zen”. If you believe in the principles of Feng Shui, this fountain would make a nice addition to the wealth area of your home.

The PetSafe Brand Drinkwell ® Ceramic Pagoda Fountain gets four paws up from Lola and me, and two thumbs up from Mother. I highly recommend you try one out! To learn more about all of the fab pet products PetSafe has to offer, visit them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

  2. We have a fountain here, and we all use it! Can you tell my human to change the filter more often, though? She's a little lazy about it.

  3. We have this fountain but Wally is the only one that uses it. We know how important water is to us cats.

  4. We have several fountains and lots of water bowls here. The Dad makes sure our ferals always have fresh, clean and cool water too.

  5. We just got a fountain to try too. I'm not sure Bear will give it a chance ... anything that makes noise is not his friend. But I'm hoping Ellie will love it. Then again, Bear's a cat, so I might be surprised and find him playing in the fountain like he used to do with his water bowl :)

  7. We had a fountain and we liked it, but we quickly had problems with the pump. Now we're back to our good old water bowl... Purrs

  8. I would love to get a fountain for my cat. The problem is that he loves playing with water and he would make a big mess around the house. So, I have several water bowls around the house and I change the water twice a day.

  14. That fountain is really nice looking. I didn't realize they were ceramic. I always assumed all of those fountain type bowls were plastic. Hmm, may have to check one out.

  15. I haven't a place to put the fountain as there are so few wall outlets. Sigh.

  16. If you could see out of our window right now, you would not need water fountains!!! MOL!!!

    This is a gorgeous fountain!

  18. This fountain looks like it would be amazing for us! Does it have to be plugged in? I'm always looking for ways to keep Gonzo and Beau hydrated.

  19. The fountain looks great! I think my pets might like one, but I need one that is battery operated because I don't have many outlets where I want to put the fountain.

  20. Hydration is so important. Particularly in the summer and particularly for cats, who, as I hear, don't really have the natural instinct to drink because wild cats simply get their water from their prey.

  21. Having lived in the Middle East most of my life and having cats there, I am so on top of hydration and when out with Layla I carry bottles of water plus a bowl for her to make sure she does not dehydrate, the boys laugh at me for that as they say I force them to drink all the time LOL

  22. We also have a pagoda Drinkwell fountain, and in fact, we have two now, plus multiple bowls around the house. Our Mom is very appreciative that there's a Hydration month and hopes people remember outside animals, too!

  23. What a great and informative post, Lexy! We have that Pagoda fountain here, and boy are we glad. Gracie and Zoe both love drinking from it -- Gracie from the top "bowl," and Zoe from the streams falling over the sides. :)

  24. We are really dry here in Colorado and it's often hard to stay hydrated. It's interesting to me that Piper often refuses water when we are on a hike, which is kind of concerning. She'll drink as soon as we get back to the house but rarely while on the hike. I do worry that she's getting dehydrated and I always do a skin check to make sure she's okay. I love the idea of a fountain though I have a feeling my crew would likely try to play in it ;-)

  25. We have three fountains throughout our house so we can drink water constantly. We love the fountains made by PetSafe! We also have a Pagoda and Mom Paula loves the design and Truffle likes the flowing streams!
