Scruffy Paws Nutrition Scrub and Shine Dental Powder Keeps Your Cat's Teeth and Gums Healthy

One of my goals here at Lola The Rescued Cat is to bring information to our readers that can help their cats live happier lives. (Well, not only the cats but their people, too!) One way I accomplish this is by doing product reviews so pet parents can get a glimpse of different cat-related products that are out there that can make life easier for two-legged and four-legged family members.

Today we're working with the folks at Scruffy Paws Nutrition to tell you about their Scrub and Shine Dental Powder.

Scruffy Paws Nutrition

Good dental health is so important for cats. I've tried to brush Lexy and Lola's teeth, but let's just say it didn't go well! Lola had her canines and a couple of other teeth removed a few years ago (the canines were broken, not decayed), and Lexy had her dental about two years ago. Lexy was 10 then, and I was very worried about her being under general anesthesia. When the folks at Scruffy Paws asked me if I'd be interested in trying out their Scrub and Shine Dental Powder I quickly said yes. I definitely want to keep the girls' teeth and gums healthy.

Who are Scruffy Paws Nutrition?

The Scruffy Paws tale started out with a group of cat lovers who were fed up with the lack of healthy, nutritional supplements for their favorite felines. The team set out to explore the world of feline supplements. With the help of world class veterinarians, cat experts and nutritionists, they were on their way and Scruffy Paws was born!

I'm always jealous of people who can brush their cat's teeth. If toothbrushing is difficult for you and your cat, you may want to check out Scruffy Paws Nutrition's Scrub and Shine Dental Powder.

The Dental Scrub is very easy to use. You just sprinkle some on your cat's food and that's it! For cats under 15 pounds, the dosing is 1/4 teaspoon per meal.

The scrub is quick to act and helps keeps your cat’s mouth healthy on a daily basis. It helps keep teeth clean, gums healthy, breath fresh, and helps prevent the formation of plaque between routine dental checkups.

What's in It?

These are the active ingredients per 2.5g (approximately 1 teaspoon):

Natural Zeolites (500 mg) - unique minerals that help prevent the formation of plaque and help stop it from sticking to your cat's teeth.

Proprietary Probiotic Blend (L. acidophilus, E. faecium, B. subtilis, L. casei, L. fermentum, L. plantarum - 355 mg) - Helps to support a healthy balance of bacteria in the mouth.

Cranberry Powder (25 mg) - a rich source of antioxidants and bioflavonoids that support the health of gum tissue.

Yucca schidigera Extract (7 mg) - An herb that helps inhibit enzymes that break down the structural integrity of gum tissue.

Taurine (1.25 mg) - Works in combination with zinc to support the health and strength of gum tissue.

Zinc (Zn Ascorbate) - 0.8 mg) - Helps to reduce plaque formation by penetrating the plaque on your cat's teeth and oxidizing it.

What did Lola and Lexy Think?

Scruffy Paws' website suggests starting with a small amount of the powder and working up to the recommended amount so your cat can get used to the smell and texture.

Since Lola is a picky eater, this is what I did. I built up to the recommended 1/4 teaspoon over the course of about two weeks.

Lexy took to it a little quicker than Lola did, but eventually, Lola ate up her food with no problem.

The Final Verdict

As I stated above, I started out with a small amount and built up to the recommended 1/4 teaspoon.

As you can see, Lexy had no problem with it! Lola soon followed suit.

Now that we're in the midst of a pandemic, I'm not sure when the girls will get their next checkup. I'm looking forward to their vet being impressed with their pearly whites when she gives them a dental check up.

Not Just for Cats!

That's right! Scrub and Shine Dental Powder is perfect for both cats and dogs. So if your dog's breath is a little stinky, you may want to give it a try.

  1. That is a good idea!
I used to brush Eric and Flynn's teeth with a cat toothpaste which contained enzymes that helped protect against plaque. I manually used an old head from an electric toothbrush which was an ideal size.

  2. WOW, talk about great timing! The Hubby and I were discussing the cat's teeth just an hour ago! He says, "We should brush their teeth", but what he's really saying, is...YOU brush their teeth! This product may be just the ticket...thanks for posting about it!
