Zen Clipper Nail Trimmer - A Review

zen clipper

Most cats hate that dreaded time of the month.  You know what I’m talking about – nail trimming time! Ugh! Most of us don’t like our paws being handled because our paw pads are very sensitive.  Add that to the time that humans take to line up the clipper just right so our quick doesn’t get cut in the process and you have an annoyed cat on your hands.  And you know what else? That CLIP noise is scary! It sounds like our whole toe is going to get cut off! Who wants to sit through that?

Well, the folks at Zen Clipper have the purrfect solution for us – and you, too! The Zen Clipper is designed to cut only the tip of the nail through a unique conical, stainless steel blade that is patent pending.

Since only the tip of the nail is allowed  into the cutting area quick is avoided, and it does not shred the nail like other clippers.  The Zen Clipper has no exposed sharp edges so humans don’t have to worry about cutting themselves while holding a squirming cat (or the kitty, either, for that matter!)
I know you’re wondering what our verdict is, so here you go.  Lola is usually pretty good at getting her nails done, but she’s a wiggler and Mother has to constantly reposition her on her lap to get a good angle with the clipper.  I am NOT a mani-pedi kind of girl.  Mother either has to sneak up on me when I’m sleeping or practically sit on me, and even then she’s lucky to get two nails done.  So how did the Zen Clipper fair with us? Lola had an interesting reaction. Mother was cutting her nails on the bed and she rolled over onto her back and started purring! She’s weird sometimes, what can I say? It didn’t go very well for me, though. I tried to pull my nail out of the conical blade and Mother had to cut it quickly.  After that Mother decided to sneak up on me again when I was sleeping, and this time she was more successful than usual. She actually got my whole paw done! Believe me when I tell you that’s success.

The Zen Clipper comes in six sizes, and the best way to ensure you get the right size is to ask the company to mail you a try-me sizing card; a card that has holes precisely cut matching the holes in the various Zen Clippers.

You can also download and print the sizing card here.  Don’t worry if you don’t get the size right and order the wrong one because they will replace it for free.  I think that’s very commendable of them.

For more information on the Zen Clipper you can visit their website, where you can also purchase one.  We definitely recommend the Zen Clipper!

Have you tried the Zen Clipper?

  11. Bow wow, I enjoyed this very much! We need clippers like this for my cat bros. My name is Christmas and I am a 2 year old Dachshund running for da mayor of Blogville! My momma donates to doggy rescues every time someone joins our blog www.pawprovince.com so do you think you could give us a follow? Thanks!

  12. Interesting concept. I bet it would be appreciated by owners who are terrified of clipping too much and hurting their cat. Personally, I'd have a hard time "threading" the claw into the opening.

  13. Granny has goose bumps when she sees this, but it looks like a good clipper and there is always Grandpaw who can fix it ;) Pawkisses :) <3

  14. Someone has put a lot of time and energy into creating a clier that has the potentil to help a LOT of people! I shall kee my eye open when we come to the US!
