Surefeed Sealed Pet Bowl Review and Giveaway

Hello everyone. This is Lexy checking in, and have I got a great product to tell you about today.  When Mother was at BlogPaws this past June she saw the Surefeed Sealed Pet Bowl by SureFlap and liked it right away.  She thought it would be a great product for us (and she was right.) We were very excited when we were contacted by the folks at SureFlap to give this bowl a try.

Is your cat a grazer?

Lola and I never finish our food at one sitting.  We like to take a few bites and then nibble throughout the rest of the day.  You know what this means for wet food… dried out, smelly and unappealing. Not to mention is sticks to the bowl and can be difficult to clean.  If this is the scenario in your home, stress no more; Surefeed Sealed Pet Bowl has come to the rescue! “Wasted pet food can become an expensive proposition over time,” says Piers Hampson, Marketing Director for SureFlap. “This waste can cost pet owners approximately $15 a month per pet, but now there is an easy way to keep their food fresher longer and prevent waste. The SureFeed Sealed Pet Bowl opens and closes automatically sealing tight to prevent wet food from drying out.” This is great news since research shows that cat owners who feed their cats wet food throw as much as 1/3 of it away because it dries out or their cat won’t eat it.

It really does keep food moister!

Just look at this proof. Here are both bowls at 8:00 AM.

And at 8:00 PM. The food in the Surefeed bowl is much fresher. Which bowl do you think your cat would prefer?

Let’s talk about bugs.

Ants and other bugs can be pesky intruders in the summer months.  This summer we had a problem with ants, who took a liking to our food bowls, and Mother had to come up with creative ideas to keep them out. If we had the Surefeed bowl, the problem would have been solved in a flash! By the way, this bowl works great for dry food as well and will keep your kitty's kibble fresh and bug or fly free. I just thought of a great idea. If you feed strays or ferals this bowl will be purrfect!

What is Surefeed and how does it work?

Surefeed is a covered bowl with a motion activated lid.  As your cat approaches it the lid opens automatically, which allows access to food at any time. The hinged, transparent lid slides up and down when the sensors on the front and sides of the bowl are activated.

Some cats may be a little leery of the lid, so you may need to start with a training mode. Mother started us out with putting a treat in the bowl and leaving the lid up.

It didn’t take me long at all to get used to the moving lid.

Lola, on the other paw, doesn’t eat from it when the lid is down. She will not do any extra steps at all for food, and if it’s not right in front of her face she just won’t eat.  If I smell food, I will figure out how to get it!

As you can see from the video above, it’s very quiet and opens very smoothly.  No sudden movements or noises to frighten a timid cat.

The unit requires 4 C cell batteries and has a battery life of six months. (Tip: Don’t put the bowl in an area that has a lot of traffic.  Mother is always walking by it and triggers the lid to open. Your batter life will last longer if you avoid that.)

What comes in the box?

You get one Surefeed unit (which measures 9 1⁄4" (W) x 8 1⁄4" (D) x 2 7⁄8" (H),and one gray insert bowl (which measures 4 1⁄8" (W) x 6 5⁄16" (H) x 1 3⁄16" (D).  If you want to add some color you can buy additional bowls in different colors. There is also the option of a split bowl.

A company with a conscience.

You know that we here at the White House love a company with a conscience.  SureFlap is a UK based company (who also manufactures microchip pet doors and feeders) that gives back to the community. They donate products and funds to UK based charities such as Cat’s Protection (who we LOVE), Wood Green Animal’s Charity, and the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals.  Thank you, SureFlap, for caring and helping cats in need.

This product definitely gets four paws up from me.  Mother gives it two thumbs up as well and really likes this bowl.

We also want to let you know that even though this review is written from my point of view, it's not only for cats. Small dogs would do well with this bowl as well.

  1. This looks like it really keeps the food fresh - of course we would all continue to steal each other's food, which is what we do here!

  8. What a great bowl! Zoe is a grazer, while Gracie is a fast eater and an opportunist (i.e. she eats Zoey's food, too. This bowl might be good for Zoe. :)

  10. We need one of these bowls. It would help us regulate Lita's diet, and Carmine could poke along and eat his food over hours the way he likes to.

  17. We have three cats - and they all eat at different rates. My Moko is the oldest and she loves canned food, but often eats some and saves the rest for later. I'd love a bowl like this for her.

  18. Clove has this problem with her wet food only preferred diet so this would be pawesome to try!

  19. This would be purrrrfect for my girl Tink. She's a total grazer and by the time she's decided she wants more it's just not nice.

  20. This looks like a great bowl. The food I feed is relatively free of many preservatives, so keeping it fresh is my goal. For that reason I am able to put out only a small amount at a time which isn't good if I'm gone for more than a day. This looks like the answer.
